A Note Upon the Mystic Writing Pad

Eight graphite illustrations, seven displayed without glass separating the viewer from the hand-drawn works. A pile of erasers invites visitors to interrupt the scenes.

The images draw on 35mm photographs made by Emma’s father, Andy Sheffer, during his time in Alaska before she was born. The final work, protected behind glass, is a four-foot rendering of Freud’s essay A Note Upon the Mystic Writing-Pad, annotated by the artist.
